Rye Revolution?

16 Jan

ImageThis article dropped into my inbox today. I love rye bead, but find it hard to spend 5 dollars on a pack of bread that in my mind still is a “cheap everyday food.” But who knows, maybe a rye-revolution will actually happen, leading to a price-drop? (One can always dream).

It may not be Finnish rye bread, but you can get the Polish variety at all the Greenpoint supermarkets (and many bakeries). It’s about $1.89 / loaf, and it’s SO GOOD.

Or: Am I really missing out on trying the Finnish rye?

Thanks for the comment Mandy! You know, the Polish version is good, but it’s not really as intensely rye-y as the Finnish kind, which is made of 100% rye flour. Many think the “Finn-rye” is too bitter, that’s why it’s not sold much outside Finland and Sweden I guess. Think you should give it a try and let me know what you think!
